The Negroni - A Classic!
The classic Negroni is equal parts refreshments, bitters, complexity, and of course time while enjoying this classic cocktail. The Negroni is a drink best served at a bar or on your patio, to be savored slowly.
Some may consider this drink to be a simple one, as it’s a classic made from only three ingredients: Gin, Campari, and Sweet Vermouth. However, this drink is more complex than it appears. Guests ordering a Negroni have expectations, as they should. A classic like the Negroni is usually ordered by people who love the Negroni, and have been enjoying this special drink for quite some time. Each Negroni lover has their unique preferences. The task of satisfying the diverse expectations of critics can be a challenge.
Your Negroni needs to be outstanding and most important, the cocktail needs to be balanced. Keep in mind the Negroni is very special. Not everyone will fall in love with it. The Campari can be an acquired taste that some people will enjoy, while others will not. The sweet vermouth and herbal gin help to balance out the bitterness from the Italian spirit. Therefore, I modify the 1:1:1 recipe by adding more gin and cutting back on the Campari. As we add more gin to the drink, it introduces a classic juniper tang, with notes of lemon and coriander seeds. I prefer using a lemon peel in the cocktail over the customary orange peel. To achieve a balanced cocktail, add 2 dashes of Angostura Bitter and 0.5 oz of filtered water to the drink.

Ingredients Negroni
2 oz gin
1 oz sweet vermouth
0.5 oz Campari
2 dashes Angostura Bitter
0.5 oz filtered water

Garnish
Lemon peel

Glass
Rock glass

Combine all ingredients with ice cubes in a mixing glass and stir using a bar spoon until chilled, about 20 seconds. Strain into a rock glass filled with one big ice cube. Twist the peel over the glass. Rub the peel on the rim of the glass for extra flavor. Drop the peel into the glass as a garnish.
