Cocktail notes
A tropical Mojito that stays bright
Banana brings body and sweetness, but lime, mint, rum, and bubbles still need space to remain recognizable.
Choose the banana carefully
Use a banana that is fully yellow with no green spots, but not so soft that it tastes fermented. Mash it smooth before building the drink.
Choose a clean rum
A light white rum such as Ron Botran Reserva Blanca or Don Q keeps the profile crisp and lets the fresh banana, lime, and mint lead.
Prepare only the base ahead
The banana, mint, lime, and sugar may be combined shortly before serving. Wait to add rum, crushed ice, and sparkling water so the finished drink stays cold and lively.
A zero-proof version
Omit the rum and lengthen the drink with additional sparkling water or ginger ale. Adjust the sugar after tasting because ginger ale adds sweetness.
